Scotty's 39th Annual International Steel Guitar Convention, September 2nd through the 4th, at the Millennium Hotel 200 S. 4th St., St. Louis, MO 63114-3314. Reservation phone: 1-314-241-9500. I.S.G.C. room rates per night: Single $90.00, Double $95.00, Quads $110.00, Suite $150.00. (Tax not included in rate). The show features the best steel players from around the world and exhibits by manufacturers and distributors. The schedule: Thursday, Sept. 2nd: Doug Jernigan E9th beginner instruction seminar from 10 am until 4 pm (There is tuition payment required) Talent show Noon to 5 pm in the Main Ballroom followed by Steel Guitar Hall of Fame Fund Raiser 7 to 10 pm, in the Main ballroom. Friday, Sept. 3rd: Doug Jernigan Advanced E9th instruction seminar from 10 am until 4 pm in South Tower A. Don Curtis seminar in the Corondolet Room, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Steel Guitars in Concert from 9 am until 4 pm. Convention opening ceremonies at 5:30 pm, followed by Steel Guitars in concert. The Hawaiian Gathering will take place in the Jefferson Rooms from 10 am until 4 pm. The Late Night Concert featuring Texas steel legend Dickie Overby with guest vocalists, in the Choteau Room from 1 am until 3 am Saturday morning. Saturday Sept. 4th: Steel Guitars in Concert from 10 am until 12:30 am. Also on Saturday there will be a Jazz Concert in the Choteau Room from 10 am until 1:30 pm. Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association (RISGA) Annual Steel Show - September 19th, at the Liberal Club, 20 Star St., Fall River, MA. 1-508-672-9415. The show price is $10.00 per person at the door. Featured guests include: John DeMaille, Sam Gibson and Merle Record. Featured guest bands include: Stone Canyon with Terry Sutton (on steel), Tulsa Queen with Kerry Anderson (on steel), and Girl Howdy with Rose Sinclair (on steel). Member steel players will be backed up by Chris Caruso (bass), JD Foster (drums) and Andy Solber/Kerry Anderson (lead guitar). Featured special guests, direct from Hawaii, will be two of Hawaiian music's greatest artists, Casey and Hiram Olsen. Casey was a Jerry Byrd student and his dad, Hiram was a long time friend and fellow musician, who was always included in Jerry's performances. 19th Annual NE Iowa Steel Guitar Show &endash; October 22nd to 24th at the Electric Park Ballroom, 310 W. Conger, Waterloo, Iowa. Featuring Jim Cohen and DeWitt Scott plus 30 steel players from several Midwestern states. Friday night jam open to all musicians and the public (donations suggested).
